The Vow — Kai alone selects his Chosen One at an elite academy through a dark ritual called The Vow.

Elena arrives at an aristocratic academy as purchased property rather than as a student. Kai heads a secret society there and holds the sole right to name a Chosen One through a rite called The Vow. Once delivered to him, she becomes his personal possession, stripped of autonomy and bound to his command.
